2013 has literally been a career year for Chicago Blackhawks left winger Bryan Bickell, both professionally and personally. In only his third full season in the NHL, the 27-year old native of Orono, Ontario played all 48 games of the shortened 2012-13 season, scoring nine goals and 14 assists for 23 points, and in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, he played in all 23 games, scored nine goals and eight assists for 17 points. The first playoff goal was an overtime winner (second career playoff overtime GWG), and the last goal tied Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final with 1:16 left in the 3rd period; a game the Blackhawks would win 17 seconds later. It was Bickell’s second Stanley Cup championship with Chicago, but the first where his name was engraved on the Stanley Cup. However, none of those achievements mattered on August 3, 2013. In Canada’s national capital of Ottawa, in the shadows of the Rideau Canal, Bryan Bickell married Amanda Caskenette in a ceremony at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Wedding filmmaker Eduardo Reyes chronicled the entire day from before the ceremony to the reception at the Ottawa Convention Centre. You might get to see cameos from fellow Blackhawks teammates Andrew Shaw and Corey Crawford, who served as some of Bickell’s groomsmen. The reason I’m showing you this video is this will hopefully give you a fresh perspective of one of the most hard-working power forwards in the NHL. So get your tissues ready…this is going to be an emotional roller coaster!
