Washington Capitals and Florida Panthers Duel in Longest Shootout in NHL History

The Washington Capitals were involved in a shootout that lasted 15 rounds at Madison Square Garden back in 2005. That shootout was the longest since the shootout rule was implemented for the 2005-06 season. The shootout ended with some people calling Marek Malik’s shootout winner “the greatest shootout goal ever”. TSN’s Michael Farber called that shootout the greatest 15-round fight since Muhammad Ali fought Smokin’ Joe Frazier in The Fight of the Century. That record stood…until last night, when those same Capitals took on the Florida Panthers in front of a crowd of 10,012.
