Coach’s Corner Rewind: October 24, 2015

Usually, hockey is on the mind whenever I post something like this. But when your baseball team — one that just made the postseason for the first time in 22 years — just got eliminated by the defending American League champions, well, that’s a different story; one that was told in last night’s edition of Coach’s Corner on Hockey Night in Canada.

Blackhawks Combine Best of 2010 and 2013 Stanley Cup Championship Banner Ceremonies for 2015 Stanley Cup Banner Ceremony

Last night, I attended the Blackhawks home opener. For the third time in six years, there was a Stanley Cup Championship banner ceremony at the United Center. I actually had seats for the game. And when I look back at the ceremony, the 2015 Stanley Cup Championship Banner ceremony combined the best of the previous banner raising ceremonies from 2010 and 2013. It all started with LED glow spheres bouncing down from all levels of the arena. Then there was a on-ice video projection combined with 20,000 xylobands (an element used from the 2013 banner raising ceremony). Before the 6th Stanley Cup championship banner was raised, one final recap video was shown using U2’s “Where the Streets Have No Name” (another U2 hit, “With or Without You” was used for the 2010 banner raising ceremony). However, for the 2015 banner raising ceremony, instead of having the players skate the banner out, the banner was hidden in a trough and all that was needed to be done was the players to clip the banner on to the hoists. And unlike the 2010 and 2013 ceremonies, the championship banners was ordered in the same was as it was on the Championship Rings that all and staff received (1934, 1961, 2013, 2015, 2010, 1938).

If you did not see the ceremony last night, here’s the Stanley Cup Championship Banner Ceremony in its complete entirety, shot from the view from a fellow fan that attended the game.
