The 2016 NHL Winter Classic is less than four weeks away, and the theme for it is hockey’s greatest rivalry finally takes it outside.
Set to the tune of “Sweet Emotion” by iconic Boston-based rock band Aerosmith, NBC’s ad for the 2016 NHL Winter Classic highlights the rivalry between the Boston Bruins and Montreal Canadiens. From a bloody Sugar Jim Henry shaking hands with Maurice Rocket Richard after a playoff series, to Game 7 of the 1979 Stanley Cup semifinals, to the modern day, which leads to a panorama of the venue: Foxborough’s Gillette Stadium, home of the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots.
This game doesn’t get any bigger or better than this. With both teams breaking out sweaters that look like ACTUAL SWEATERS and enough storylines that could make this game more hyped than the Super Bowl, the 2016 NHL Winter Classic is primed to be a historic game; a game for the ages.
